The Swiss Super League, the highest level of professional soccer in Switzerland, brings together the country's best teams. Founded in 1897 and named Super League, the league provides an opportunity for Swiss clubs to demonstrate their talent and competitiveness on the national stage. Clubs such as FC Basel, FC Zurich and Young Boys are major players in this competition, vying for the league title and European places. The Super League is made up of 12 teams fighting for the title (for the big teams) and for survival (for the smaller ones). First place means a ticket to the Champions League qualifiers (see our selection of Champions League predictions): play-offs for the first and 3rd round for the second. 3rd place qualifies for the Europa League play-offs (see our Europa League predictions). The 4th and 5th qualify for the Conference League (see our Europa League Conference predictions). Finally, the last-placed team is in the relegation play-offs for the second division.

Since the league's inception, Grasshopper Zurich has emerged as the most successful club, winning several championships and establishing its dominance over the league. In the 21st century, however, it's Basel who have caught up with the most successful club. Between 2000 and 2023, the Blue and Red won 12 championships, including 8 in a row. Other clubs such as FC Servette, Young Boys and Zurich have also contributed to the league's competitiveness by adding trophies to their palmares: 17, 16 and 13.
