Welcome to our Copa Libertadores predictions page, where you can find our analyses and predictions on the main matches on the programme before each group stage matchday or knockout round. Flamengo, winners in 2022, are still the favourites for this 2023 edition, but there's no doubt that Palmeiras, winners of the 2 previous editions, as well as River Plate and Boca Junior, will be doing their utmost to bring the sacred trophy back to their fans.
Bolivar, who defeated Athletico Paranaense on penalties in the previous round, have now won the cup and league twice in a row. Conversely, despite qualifying against River Plate in the Round of 16, Internacional have lost their last two matches, including the latest against Fortaleza (0-1). So, on current form, we'd prefer Bolivar to win at home.
➡️ Boca Juniors - Racing Club: Victory Boca Juniors @1.87
Boca Juniors are unbeaten in 11 games and qualified for the quarter-finals with a win over Nacional before facing another Argentinian club. Racing Club, who were struggling in the league, showed their mental strength by coming from behind to defeat Atlético Nacional 4-2 in the first leg and win 3-0 in the return. Taking all these factors into account, we can see Boca winning at home.
➡️ Pereira - Palmeiras: Palmeiras win @1.68
Pereira's 3-0 league win over Jaguares gave them 2 wins in a row after beating Independiente del Valle 2-1 on aggregate. Opposite them, Palmeiras have won their last 2 matches and also won on aggregate in the last 16 (1-0). The Brazilian club are slight favourites for this duel.
➡️ Fluminense - Olimpia Asuncion: Fluminense win and both teams score @2.75
Fluminense outclassed America MG in Serie A (3-1) after a successful round-of-16 tie with Argentinos (3-1 aggregate). Olimpia Asuncion, meanwhile, have drawn 2 of their league matches in a row (1-1), but surprisingly eliminated Flamengo in the previous round (3-2 on aggregate). Fluminense are therefore expected to win at the Maracana in an evenly-matched duel.

➡️ Internacional - Bolivar : Internacional win / Less than 2.5 goals @2.62
Internacional won the first leg away from home (0-1), and then held off Flamengo in the league (0-0). Boliver, for their part, are at a slight disadvantage going into the second leg. What's more, the Bolivian club's form hasn't been good either, with 2 wins and 3 defeats in their last 5 matches. As a result, we're favouring a win for the Brazilian club.
➡️ Racing Club - Boca Juniors : Racing Club win @2.57
Thanks to their win over Tigre (1-2) and, above all, their draw at Boca in the first leg (0-0), Racing Club are now on a 4-game unbeaten run (2V/2N). On the other hand, Boca Juniors lost to Sarmiento Junin (1-0) after going 12 games unbeaten in all competitions. On current form, we see a short win for Racing, at home.
➡️ Palmeiras - Pereira: Palmeiras wins without conceding a goal @1.48
Palmeiras are on a run of 4 consecutive wins, notably over Vasco in Serie A (1-0) and in the Copa Libertadores with a big win over Pereira (0-4). For their part, the Colombian club are all but eliminated from the competition barring a miracle, but it will be a complicated task given the team's form, having won just 2 of their last 6 matches. Advantage Palmeiras.
Olimpia Asuncion won the league against Luqueño (0-1), but were defeated by their Copa Libertadores opponents in the first leg (2-0). Indeed, Fluminense travel to Paraguay having taken the lead in this double-header and following a recent 3-match unbeaten run. A win for the Rio club is therefore expected.

How does the Copa Libertadores work?
The Copa Libertadores is an annual soccer tournament organized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). The counterpart to the Champions League operates as follows:
👉 Qualifications: Participating teams are generally the top-ranked clubs from the national championships of CONMEBOL member countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay. Countries with the best coefficients may have more qualified teams. Some teams have to go through a preliminary phase to qualify for the group stage, depending on their ranking.
👉 Group phase: Qualified teams are divided into groups of four. Each team plays the other teams in its group home and away. The top two teams in each group qualify for the knockout stages.
👉 Play-offs: Teams meet in two-legged knockout matches. Teams play a home match and an away match, and total goals are taken into account to determine the winner. In the event of a tie, other criteria such as away goals, extra time or a penalty shoot-out may be used to decide the winner.
👉 Finals: The final two teams contest a two-legged final to determine the Copa Libertadores champion. The same two-legged rules apply. In the event of a tie after the two matches, extra time is played, possibly followed by a penalty shoot-out.
👉 Club World Cup: The winner of the Copa Libertadores then qualifies for the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will face the champions of the other regional confederations.
